Denali National Park

Today we woke up at  9 AM, had breakfast (oatmeal and water), regrouped, loaded up the car, and drove to a grocery store to get some things for lunch the next few days.  After shopping, we drove out of Wasilla -- on our way to Denali National Park.  Along the way, we saw two caribou with huge antlers!  Look below to see a picture.  Once we got to the park, we had a quick lunch -- ham-and-cheese sandwich, Pringles, and Gatorade -- before going into the Visitor Center, where we watched an excellent 15-minute video with spectacular footage of animals (even some cute little babies!), Mt. McKinley through the seasons, and beautiful music.  They also have a little museum there with history, stories, and information about the park.  After the Visitor Center, we went to the bookstore, which is packed with plenty of books, DVDs, CDs, and collectibles.  Of course, we got hatpins, plus a couple books and DVDs.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to see Mt. McKinley because it was very cloudy (and even some sprinkles), but on the video, we did see very good footage of it.  Someday, I would like to take up the challenge and climb it.  One way or the other, I want to climb some real, big, tall mountains.

After enjoying the park, we drove to our place to spend the night -- Carlo Creek Cabins.  You can stay in a quaint cabin or just pitch a tent in the wilderness.  Our cabin is small yet very cute.  It has two beds, some really cool lamps, a tiny bathroom, and a pretty view out the back.  Behind our cabin is a rushing mountain creek with a rocking swing right by it.  This evening, after our dinner in the cabin and a little walk around, I sat out on the swing and marveled at the snow-covered mountains and beautiful stream.  God just amazes me with His beautiful creation.  Earlier today, when we were driving to Denali, we saw some mountains with FRESH snow on the top -- and when I say fresh, I mean as in newly-fallen...today.  I just can't get over that it is August 4 and it just snowed.  Amazing!

Below are a few pictures from today.  Enjoy, and thanks for reading!

Fresh snow on top of a mountain -- like powdered sugar.

We saw caribou today!

Grandma is sitting on our cabin's porch -- it is small yet very cute...and a beautiful setting too!
